Making a Case for the Broken Vase................

James is quickly kid-proofing our home one mess at a time......
It was harder than I thought to sweep up the remains of my two favorite vases this week. James likes to be on my hip, and his hands swipe at anything faster than a frog on a fly.
I knew this day was coming. Just as I know our crisp white linen furniture will eventually be a kid's canvas for magic marker and sticky fingers.

Choosing between a living room full of nicer things and baby swings, I will be picking the latter....I'll just need my camera... somehow taking pictures of the destruction helps purge my depression of the disappearing doodads:)

This reminds me of my "precious moments" nativity set getting broken--so sad ;-(

That's so sad! I'd just baby proof and put all your pretty things away until after the kiddos are a little older.

Oh Jess, it only gets better (or is it worse? Not sure). I find myself "laughing it off" on a daily basis. I love having a little boy!!

Your blog is so beautiful and so much fun to read. We need to get together again SOON! I will call you to plan a day. Luvs!

If it makes you feel better my husband broke (for the third time) one of my favorite expensive glasses. Yes I told him I am wrapping them up, packing them away, because he is like a little child I can't have nice things around... sad.

I chose the latter too.. You eventually have to give in. It's a sad day for a decorating perspective but when all those toys fill the room it just feels right.
I can't wait for our girls day next week!

Nothing baby proofs a house better than a baby!! Scott always says you can either have nice things or kids, but not both! Good thing those little ones bring us more joy than any "thing" ever could!

Even though it is totally irrational, I hope you keep all those nice things you have out. You have a beautiful house.

A wise friend once told me that if you totally baby-proof your house then your children will never learn how to treat things nice and be civilized. She had a point, that's why I went ahead and bought a grand piano- even though I knew it would come with a constant need to remind the kids to "be careful swinging the baseball bat in the living room!" and other things. I guess you need to find that balance. No one likes to live in either a rubber room or a museum. And, they do go through stages. They won't always be trashing your treasure. And I know this is a super long comment, but I also just want to add that my husband has broken way more things that my children have.
Just for the record!

Oh, I so know what you're going through! Good luck and keep posting those pics! Especially if it makes you get a little laugh out of it. ;)
P.S. Yes, I'd love our little gal to marry your adorable James! Let's start planning! lol

Honey while it is sad to lose nice things, you always manage to salvage the situation (and typically make it better). You have a flair for "taking lemons and making lemonade." James and I are very lucky to have you.

Nothing like a nice taste of kid-proofing. Wow, white linen furniture? Sounds so beautiful! Maybe that can be in the "look but no touching" room?
