Giving Thanks.

Soon I will be focused filling my tummy, so today, I give thanks ...
(not in order:)

1. That I'm not a turkey
2. My beautiful baby boy.
3. John and the 957 reasons he is a super dad/husband.
4. Blogs, facebook, web cam, skype- keeping us all connected.
5. My tv friends helping me to burn calories laughing -Jimmy Fallon, Kelly Ripa, Jay Leno, Kevin James... don't judge, I had a 10 pounder and needed some serious couch time:)
6. Prayer, church music, righteous hubby etc..okay, that's three, but same category.
7. Comfy boots still being in style this winter. Hallelujah.
8. Sleeping in until 11:00 on Saturday morning while John and James bond over video games.
9. The yummy food my Uncle Mike will be bringing to Thanksgiving dinner.
10. The whole "damn" Down fam:)

Of course there are TONS more, but in the spirit of keeping this light, I will end wishing you a happy happy turkey day... and if you're venturing out this Friday...Go, Fight, Win:)!

Can't get my blue jeans on

Dearest Blue Jeans,

I am completely blue over not being able to wear you! Last night when I jumped the gun and tried to put you on, you were so terribly tight I could barely breathe! Alas, by the time I finally got you zipped, your hip hugging waist hit my incision with precision! I somberly took you off and put you back on the shelf until the next time I decide to do a shimmy dance just to fit in some dang pants.
Don’t get me wrong. I am thankful for my sisters designated c-section sweats she so generously loaned me during my time of need. They are pants that can go from day to night. Which comes in handy with an infant that makes it hard to tell the difference between the two. But ahh for that bedazzled back pocket that gives the illusion of a lifted booty. Oh, to tuck you into a comfy pair of boots or occasionally wear you with some high heels. I don’t know how practical that is with a little tyke and all, but one night a week, even to the grocery store would suffice. I am hoping that maybe in a month or two you will be back from your sabbatical. B/c all I want for Christmas is to fit back into you- my denim blue!

Yours Truly,

Jess

Busy Getting Our Cuddle On.

Today begins week 4 with our little James. And I'm using flu season as an excuse to hibernate and cuddle with our baby all winter long! These past weeks have seriously been the BEST time of our life. Like my mom said, motherhood is something you can't really explain, you just have to experience it. I think it feels like the high of going shopping and buying something you love, but unlike shopping, the euphoria doesn't go away. (We could be saving money, but since it takes me 20 wipes to change a diaper.. that won't be happening any time soon:)
I can't believe how excited I am to see my little guy, even when he wakes me up for his 4 am feeding. After he falls asleep, I have a hard time putting him back in his cradle. Before I go to bed, instead of the sick feeling I would get knowing I had work in the morning, I feel pure bliss knowing I get to wake up and spend the day being a mom.
The only thing I would change right now is all of the postpartum pain. It seriously has been tons harder than I ever thought! Right when I am starting to feel better, it seems like something else starts hurting. Right now I really want a blow up donut to sit on!
A few things I love about our little man:
-He is so good-natured and only cries when he needs changed or is hungry.
-He has been all smiles since the day he was born. And it's not gas, his grins are genuine!
-I like nursing more than I ever thought.
-He is a mini clone of John.
-He is such a little chunk and at his doctor appointment the nurse said he looks more like a 2 month old than a newborn.
-He recognizes my voice and gets excited to see me.
-He actually likes my horrible singing and falls asleep when he hears it.
-I am loving watching John be such a fabulous dad/husband.
-When he gets the hiccups/or cries he sounds like a little squeaky toy..ADORABLE!

Itsy Bitsy Spider

James rocked the spider costume this Halloween. This costume has been worn about 20 times by different cousins over the years. Me being the first way back in '83! I am so in love with our little bug and I'm glad he crawled into our lives this October!
