Romania Romania wherefore art thou Romania! Two Sundays ago we were in the Shakespearean-esque city of Brasov. I was enchanted the entire day by the ancient city walls, cobblestone streets, red tile roofs, old town square, and beautiful mountains. It was so fun exploring this city on foot with my best friend. John is a great travel companion. He reads reviews and comes up with a great itinerary, makes hilarious jokes, and never complains when I whip out my camera. Oh, and he seriously has the gift of tongues (besides being a good kisser)..he can roll his R's and pronounce Romanian names like a local. As you can tell, I was lucky in love in Brasov...
(Right) First school in Romania (1600's). (Left) Hiking down into the city from a medieval tower.
Lunch in the city square.
Fresh Romanian coconut kurtoskalacs.
After Brasov we visited a couple nearby fortified churches. A fortified church is a church surrounded by thick walls designed to protect people from invaders.
A lot of the day, we were the only ones around and the only sound was the clicking of my camera.
Inside the city walls. The windows were used to pour hot liquid on the ottoman invaders. We felt like Indiana Jones exploring all the vacant rooms and hallways.
In some of the rooms there were ancient plaster paintings.
I haven't been able to stop thinking about our weekend trip Transylvania. It is seriously going to be hard to send John back and not tag along.
Now just one more post to go about The People's Palace and that will wrap up our Romanian trip.
