The Carpathian Mountains were
so grand and enchanting. I felt like any
moment we could round the corner and come upon a storybook character. We finished the day with Dracula’s castle, a
romantic lunch on a mountain top, and a hike to a fortress from the middle
ages. Exploring these mountains was maybe
the biggest adventure of my life and I was so glad to have John as my Transylvania tour guide.
This is Bran castle. The story of Dracula was loosely based on this place. Teutonic knights first built a castle here in 1212...Think, if this hilltop could talk!
Secret passageway in castle.
This was where we ate lunch. The views were spectacular.
Next we went to the Rasnov Fortress dating back to 1215. We arrived right before closing so we practically had the citadel to ourselves. We felt like a couple of kids in a candy store. It was so exciting exploring a place with so much history.
The site was so raw. Very little has been done to refurbish it since it was last occupied in the 1800's. We could practically taste the past.
Fun Fact: Cold Mountain with Nicole Kidman was filmed in these hills.
Next our driver took us to our hotel in a small ski town where we had a Romanian pizza dinner. We fell asleep as soon as our heads hit our pillows. So awesome to be tired from trail blazing instead of diaper changing:)

Beautiful jessica
So so beautiful. Wishing I could take a diaper break and view some amazing history like that. Always love your posts and pictures:)
I have looked at this several times in the past couple days. What a beautiful place. I am so glad you got to spread your wings and fly and bring back a few bright feathers for your nest. Thanks for sharing the trip with all of us too!!
Well this was Mom :-)
