What home should we make our own?...

Let me preface this post by saying we haven't turned into Texas oil tycoons, it is just everything really is much bigger in this state and you can get more for your mula. So, after six months of looking online and many hours driving around in the hot Houston heat, here is what we've narrowed it down to. We are so ready to have a place to call home so I've listed some pros and cons to help me think it through and would love your feedback. Who knows, the poll could determine if you'll be swimming in a pool when you come to visit...

PROS
-Least expensive:)
-Very open and bright- I love all the big windows!
-4 bedrooms.
-Large pool with a beach type entrance.
-The backyard faces a golf course but it is still private b/c of the trees.
-Close to John's work.
-Stainless steel appliances.
-Great layout.
CONS
-It isn't as cozy as the other ones.
-Our furniture would feel small in this huge space.
-The neighborhood isn't as posh as the others.
PROS
- I loooooove the the views of the back yard. It is breathtaking. I would spend every minute outside. The pics that this Realtor took don't do it justice!
-I love the neighborhood. It is so serene!
-Perfect size.
-The finishes are very high quality.
-Also close to John's work.
-It is a perfect size for our small fam.
-It feels very comfy and homey.
-Big beautiful windows.
-Huge covered balcony on second floor.
-View of golf course and lake.
-Central vac.
-Alarm system.
CONS
-It is the most expensive:(
-I don't like some of the paint colors.
-I am not crazy about the cabinet color in the kitchen.
-The neighbors might think we are ghetto because we don't drive a Lexus.

PROS
-I love the interior of this house!!!
-Also a perfect size
-Lovely backyard.
-Good resale.
-Great neighborhood.
-Just a block away from Houston temple.
-It has a secret little room behind a bookcase!
-They are building a huge park down the street.
-There is a country club pool we could join.
CONS
-It doesn't have a pool:(
-The kitchen (where I spend most of my time) is closed off from the rest of the house.
-It has 2 bars, which is a lot of wasted space since we just drink water;)

Time to vote...

I voted on Casa #3, because I loved the bookcase, and if you can join a community pool, you get all the benefits, without the upkeep, and don't have to worry about little ones accidentally falling in... which is the reason I didn't buy a house with a pool. In the heat of the summer, I'm thinking that may not have been a good enough reason... And I also love that proximity to a temple. We have never lived close to one. I'm not counting the one right across the border. It might be less than 20 miles away, but there is a war zone to cross through...
But don't rule out house #1 because of it's size. You would be surprised how fast you can outgrow a house with just a few lucky furniture finds, and a couple more kiddos. I'm just saying.

They are all amazing houses. Michelle has a good point with the pool. I was wondering what you would do to keep James out. I really love the interior pictures of number 1, but I'm sure whatever you choose you will make even more beautiful.

ahhhh, I still can't decide but it does sound like you are most excited about numbers two and three so I think it should be between those two. I do love the view in the backyard of that one house (forgot which number) but then again, I love them all! Chris needs to hurry up and get home so I can make him vote, he is much better at making decisions!!!

oh ya, is there a way to put a fence around the pools? I worry about James wondering off into it...that would be a constant concern I think...

I think house #1 is beautiful, especially the back yard area. Like has been mentioned in other comments, the pool and James would be a concern, but you could definitely put a locked fence around it. Cathy did it, and she could fill you in, I'm sure.

I didn't care for the red walls that I saw in the other pictures on the website. Of course, paint can be changed, but I'm just saying. And the pool on the second one seems way too close to the golf course. I'm not sure I could comfortably swim with men golfing just feet away (although when we come to see you, I'd probably still swim 'cause I won't know anyone there, right?)

I like the exterior of the second one the best, but I've learned after 17 years of living in a home where I don't love the exterior, that I spend way more time inside and that has to matter to me a lot more.

I'd trust you to buy a home for me way more than I'd trust myself, so I think I'll stop now. Good luck with all the decisions.

It is nice of you to ask. but I believe your post speaks for itself...I know how to read between the lines!

- I loooooove .... IT.... breathtaking..... I would spend (the extra...)
-I love the neighborhood..... serene!
-Perfect size.....
-........ high quality.
-Also close to John
-It is... perfect.... for our fam.
-It feels very.... home
-Big beautiful......
-Huge.....
-View of...the rest of the house!

(You may not be there for long...or you may be there forever...live your dream....and growing up in Phoenix where everyone I knew I had pool...they can be secured with locked gates or covers!

I say go with #3...loving the interior is a big deal! The 1st one is my other choice, but an unfenced pool is uncomfortable to me...I worry alot about little kids and pools! You can stock the bars with water and soda/juice so you never have far to go for a drink! But being shut off from the main house in the kitchen is no fun, except you don't have to keep it as clean if no one is going to wander back there...decisions, decisions, good luck!

Oh dear, jess you have a hard decison for sure! I was set on every single one of the houses until I would see the next one... and then i would be set on that one too.. and then the one after that as well. haha so obviously they are all great houses and i'm sure you would be happy in any of them but when you picture your life for the next few years or maybe even much longer... where do you picture it?? I loooove the open windows the first one has. I looove the exterior of the second one but seems more dark inside. However, the back yard looks so nice & you could always plant more trees for more privacy from the golf course. And lastly, I looove the interior of the third one as well. But I do think a pool would be nice... and I feel like you could do many things to keep it safe for James. I LOVED having a pool in my backyard when we first moved in. It was a blast for us kids so I think that would be fun to have. Well, good luck Jess! I know you'll be happy with your decision :)

I'm a social bird, so neighborhood is important. I'm glad Heather made me spend the extra dough to live in the neighborhood we do now...

Sorry to say, but I don't know how you are going to choose! They are all beautiful and definitely have their pros and cons. 1 is beautiful, but if you don't like the neighborhood as much I think that's a big deal!! I think I could deal with things I didn't like in a house as long as I don't have bad neighbors too! What do I know though, we've always rented!! I love house #3, and since there is a country club with a pool then you still get a pool without all the upkeep and worrying about James! #2 is also beautiful too though and like everyone else mentioned, putting up a fence or a pool cover would be easy! My vote is for #2 or #3. Good luck choosing and let us know what you decide! Can't wait to come visit you!

I voted casa #2 because I loved the backyard so much! It had the pool and an awesome view. true about the cabinet color but put something in there to brighten up the place and it won't seem so dark. :) loved them all though and I can't wait to come visit! lol I assume all of them have at least 3 spare bedrooms right? :) Can't wait to hear which one you choose, miss you dear!

I voted for #2 by your comments It feels like this is the one that you liked best... maybe not but reading your comments it felt that way. I LOVED the backyard view too! You seem so at peace in the outdoors, so that seems to fit you best. The con's to that house are easily changeable... a little paint and your darling personal style will make it your dream home.
P.S.
So jealous:) they all look amazing. I can't wait to find out which one you will be making your home.

I voted 3! Most expensive = less money to do fun things with (maybe), plus maybe feel not as "at home" in the community if they end up being snobs! Third one looks gorgeous inside and I kind of like that it has no pool, I've always heard pool upkeep is a pain in the butt. Then again, I've never lived in Texas heat! But you can have just as much fun running through the sprinklers! I also like good neighborhood and proximity to the temple.
